EMBRACE YOUR INNER WILD CHILD AND CELEBRATE THE NATION-WIDE RELEASE OF “WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE” DURING “WILD THINGS WEEK IN NYC” FROM OCTOBER 12-16

NYC & Company and Warner Bros. Pictures have partnered to transform New York City into an urban forest in celebration of the highly-anticipated, motion-picture adaptation of one of the most beloved children’s books of all time – Where the Wild Things Are. From Monday, October 12 – Friday, October 16, New York City’s five boroughs will host a number of cultural events, special exhibits, celebrity appearances, promotional giveaways, outdoor adventures, and “wild” festivities leading up to the film’s national release. Directed by Spike Jonze, “Where the Wild Things Are” was adapted for the big screen with the help of Dave Eggers, and based on the original book by Maurice Sendak. During “Wild Things Week in NYC,” fans young and old are invited to explore their creative side and let their imaginations run wild.

Urban Park Rangers will lead an afternoon of “wild” activities for kids, including hiking, orienteering, and learning about owls.

Where the Wild Things Are: Original Drawings by Maurice Sendak, Tues., Oct. 6 – Sun., Nov. 1
Morgan Library & Museum, 225 Madison Avenue
View rarely-seen artwork from the book’s author, Maurice Sendak, including his earliest drafts, a pencil drawing for the cover illustration, and a preliminary sketch not incorporated into the final published version. This special exhibition honors the literary work of the cherished author and illustrator.

Spike Jonze: The First 80 Years, Thurs., Oct. 8 – Sun., Oct. 18
Museum of Modern Art, 11 West 53rd Street
This film exhibition highlights Jonze’s contributions to cinema as a director, producer, cinematographer, writer, actor, choreographer, and sometimes stuntman.  Several of the filmmaker’s fiction features, music videos, skate videos, commercials and shorts will be screened.

Kids are invited to create Wild Things crafts and illustrations and submit them for a chance to win tickets to a pre-screening of the film on October 14. Ages 8 and up.

Max Records, Catherine Keener, and Forest Whitaker from the film will read Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s book aloud to children of all ages at the South Court Auditorium in the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building.
